Youʼll shoot your eye out, kid!

This foil promo card will only be available at the Feast of Winter Veil Holiday Celebrations. The Red Rider Air Rifle has brand new card frame, and looks awesome in foil! Players will receive one of them just for signing up (while supplies last).

The Feast of Winter Veil will also be the first event in the “What a Long, Strange Trip Itʼs Been” Achievement.

    Wait - what?!?

Cryptozoic Entertainmentʼs tournament software is scheduled to launch next year to support the Realm Qualifiers. But donʼt worry - each player that plays next month will also get an achievement card with a unique code that they can hang on to and add to their user profile when it launches early next year. So what else does Great-father Winter have hiding under the tree this year? How about a festive new playmat. More specifically, two of them - one for the winner, and another randomly awarded as a door prize.

    Dates:
So when does this party get started?
    North America: December 11-12
    Europe and Asia: December 18-19

We know that this falls in the middle of the Worldbreaker launch due to the change in the release date, so these weekends will be full with the Holiday Celebration, Release Parties, and the Chase the Can charity events. Itʼs not how we originally planned it, and we trust our Battleground stores and our Champions of the Black Flame to fit all these awesome events in as best they can.

    Format:
In North America, The Feast of Winter Veil will be the last Core tournaments to feature cards from the March of the Legion block. So dust off your Form of the Serpents and Illidan Stormrages for one last dance.

The Feast of Winter Veil tournaments in Europe and Asia will use the new Core format with cards from Worldbreaker.

    Equipment

We reference “equipment” all the time on cards, but up until now, the word has never appeared on any type line. This is obviously not very clear, especially to new players without a background in the MMO. Starting in Worldbreaker, “equipment” will appear on the type line of all weapons, armor, and items. This has minor implications for certain cards (I’m sure King Varian will survive the nerf), but it was done for the sake of clarity.

    Rogue finishing moves

This isn’t so much a rules change as it is a change in design philosophy. We will no longer be tagging new Rogue abilities as “Combos,” and Finishing Moves going forward will ask you to remove any Rogue ability in your graveyard from the game. The downside to this change is that previous Finishing Moves won’t interact with new Rogue abilities. The pluses are a significant reduction in complexity, more open-ended deck building with the new abilities, and a much easier time making Finishing Moves work in Limited play.

    Druid forms

Druid forms are an important part of the class, but their original implementation is too complicated and frustrating for us to highlight at lower rarities. Since they are such a significant part of the MMO, we wanted to make them a little easier to play with and keep track of.

    What this means:

    1) New forms will not break when you play non-Feral abilities or strike with weapons.

    2) They will still be tagged as “Form (1),” so playing a second form will cause one of them to be destroyed.

    3) They will also be tagged as Bear, Cat, etc. on the type line, so cards like Feral Charge work as they did previously.

    4) Old forms are not receiving functional errata, so non-Feral abilities and weapon striking will still destroy them.

    Striking with Weapons

The new rules for striking with weapons are as follows:

You can only strike with a weapon as your hero attacks or defends. This is the only time you can strike with a weapon.
Striking a weapon associates that weapon with your hero for this combat. It doesn't use the chain.
While associated, your hero has that weapon’s ATK and damage type. Your hero also has Long-Range while associated with a weapon with Long-Range.
A weapon stops being associated with a hero as it changes zones, changes controllers, or stops being a weapon.

The previous rules for striking with weapons were very complicated and unintuitive, two huge warning signs for the basic rules of a game. In fact, whenever a card highlighted the exact timing window for weapon striking (say, something that destroyed a weapon at instant speed, or a strike trigger that exhausted an ally), we would often remove those cards from the file specifically because we did not want players to have to know the nuances of those rules. Additionally, the timing on the old ...

January 1, 2011. We're starting the year right with Realm Qualifiers! Success in Realm Qualifiers leads to the Realm Championship on April 16th and 17th, a tournament held in each respective realm with prizes for the most dedicated players within the area. For the Championship, we usually give away promos, product, Loot cards, and travel vouchers. We haven't finalized that yet. The 6-man battle royale to determine the prizes is our next Organized Play meeting.

Branching out from playing at their local store's Battlegrounds, players will travel within their local area to win prizes and earn points. Cryptozoic will hand-pick stores to host Qualifiers in each realm, and players need 10 points to earn their spot in the Realm Championship. The points are allocated like so:

    1st: 10 points
    2nd: 10 points
    3rd - 4th: 6 points
    5th - 8th: 4 points
    9th+: 3 points

A player with 10 points may participate in any one (1) Realm Championship.

As you can see, you lock up a slot with a Qualifier win, or you can ensure your slot through sheer dedication. We want everybody to have a chance at the title. The Core Constructed portion of Realm Qualifiers start on January 1st, 2011 and ends on March 4th, 2011. The Sealed Deck portion of Realm Qualifiers start on March 5th, 2011 and ends on April 9th, 2011. You can see the prizes here, and Booster Pack prize support will also be included and the amount will be dependent on number of players in the tournament. We'll provide Series 3 Priest Deck Boxes to the Top 8 and two door prize winners as well.

Constructed tournaments are $10, and Sealed Deck tournaments (6 packs) are $30. Local currency equivalent where applicable.

    The realms are as follows:

    North America
    • Ashenvale Forest - Northern California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Alaska
    • Tanaris - Southern California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Hawaii
    • Mulgore - Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Manitoba
    • Durotar - Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi
